Update on more Kyra comics

Update on more Kyra comics published on 7 Comments on Update on more Kyra comics

Hello my friends, has it really been two months already?  I suppose it’s time for a little update to know what I’m up to and, more importantly, what Kyra is doing.  I’m sure it’s trouble – fun adorable trouble!  I spent some time relaxing and doing nothing, and the last few weeks I’ve spent cleaning and renovating my whole apartment.  It’s be tiring work but one of the things I’ve been putting off for too long,  Now that it’s almost done it’s time to start some serious work on finalizing Kyra’s next massive adventure.  So here are some thoughts.

I have an idea of changing the updates from Monday & Thursday to just one day a week.  However on that day I’d update with as many pages I had made over the past week.  That means we could have bonus updates with three pages and single pages on weeks where things don’t go well.  It all depends on how my new workflow works, but it’ll certainly be less stressful on me.  I’ve also been thinking about if each comic should continue to have a stand-alone feel (like it has since it went to color) or a more flowing every page is connected (like when it started in B&W).  One of the things I’ve been looking into.

I’ve started messing around with different art programs, pens, and styles too.  Whichever I go with I’m going to make it easier to get pages done.  There were too many unnecessary steps into getting my comic to look the way it did, but I’ve been improving on that.  Here’s a little example of what it could look like when comparing the new and old way of drawing.testdpageore

As to when the comic will start updating again … I’m still not sure.  Worse comes to worst I’ll start it right away in January 2019 but I would very much like to start earlier before then.  I just need to finalize how I’m going to draw it and make sure I have a concrete plan laid out.  But then again, so much little details changed over the years of the first story so it’ll be fine!  Get a nice website tune up, finally make that Patreon, and hopefully this time I’ll have the confidence in my work to tell people about it!

While you wait you can continue to read my eternal comic Phil Likes Tacos five times a week.  You can read a completed comic I made from 2007-08 called 95 Gallons.  And don’t forget about my TWITTER and INSTAGRAM where I sometimes update with images like the following.  I thank you every time for reading my comic so far, and thank you for waiting and wanting more!

There’s that little (for now) Kyra cutie, starting to finally get those feather in!

It’s an amazing coincidence that exactly nine years ago to the day I posted the first Kyra chapter where this all started. It’s also the day that Adventure Time ends, so that’s something crazy too! However while that wonderful show seems to be coming to it’s final ending, Kyra’s story might only be getting started. We’ve just gotten past the secret dinosaur with Paul part. It was fun, but Kyra can’t stay hidden forever. She needs to be out and free in this world! So what’s next?

Well first thing first … I’m going to take a nice break. This comic has kept me busy over the years, especially the last one since I didn’t want to miss any updates. I suppose I should work on all those real life things I’ve been putting off for … this whole time actually.

One thought in my head has been starting up one of those other comic projects that have also been bouncing around in my head. Have lots of ideas too. Some are short and simple one shots, others long like Kyra, some half finished but I love the idea of. Maybe make one of those? Two of them? Oh the possibilities!

But of course the most important part – Kyra herself. Yes, I have many MANY more plans for her for the future. I’ve been envisioning the next part to be different than what we’ve had so far. Tone, style, setting, time, how it updates – I’ve been using this cut off as a good point to think about how to tell more of Kyra’s story. Because OH is there more to tell and different ways to tell it.

Of course, I should probably bring up … SHOULD I make more webcomics? Don’t get me wrong, I love Kyra a ton and love making comics. But I can’t deny that this comic took me nine years of free time and cost me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. It’s also no secret that I’m the WORST at getting people to actually look at my stuff for many reasons; a story in and of itself. Or maybe I could spend time getting a better job than I have now. But on the other hand, it’s only been one weekend and I’m already itching to make some comics.

Anyway, I’m going to take some time to think about stuff, look at the massive back catalog of video games I have, and just sit around doodling like I used to do. I’ll put major updates here if something’s happening. My other comic Phil Likes Tacos never seems to die. Following me on Twitter is a great way to see what I’m up do. I just got Instagram, like, yesterday so it doesn’t have anything yet but will. Either way I’ll try to keep you updated and, at the absolute very least, will be updating with more pictures of that little green dinosaur. In fact, have an extra high res image of today’s picture!

Finally, I can’t forget the most important part – thank you! Thank you all for reading this crazy little story I’ve been working on so far. There’s been some rough times, but you stuck right along with me and I hope you like it. It kept me going knowing that I’m not the only one who wants to see what happens to these crazy characters.

And … uh … see you space cowboy. Yeah that’s a good end line.
