Looks like they’re finally at their destination. Unless they immediately turn around and head home because they forgot Kyra.  Oh wait she’s in the truck.  Okay never mind this adventure is still on!  It sure was fun drawing small town farm stuff I see all the time, I tell ya what.

Gee wiz I’m glad I got two pages done this week!  Had to put in over twice as many hours this weekend at work so I got a little worried.  But here they are, huzzah!  Now to wait until next week for more.  You can pass the time playing Smash Bros Ultimate.  This is a really good idea because you can play the fanmade Kyra stage made by Jermungandr. This is great because not only does it have a wonderful Kyra but it’s actually fun to play on!

Hmm, should i go to Gas or Gas2….which has a better price.

Still good comic! Cant wait to see where this goes.

The first comic in this update brings to light something I’ve been wondering about for a while now (been waiting for a good opportunity to bring it up).

So, Kyra was speaking about how she doesn’t understand why humans eat unhealthy sugars and fats and food products that are difficult for us to digest.

What is interesting about this, is that modern day carnivores actually have a very limited sense of taste. Most carnivores can only taste between one-tenth to one-one-hundredth of the flavors that humans can taste. Animals that eat exclusively meat, such as cats, actually cannot taste “sweet” flavors at all, for example. Their palate is simple and limited to “Is this meat? Y/N” and “Is this rotten? Y/N”. And as it turns out, birds are actually on the very low end of the spectrum, which may be relevant to Kyra.

It’s actually kind of funny, because we tend to associate our sense of taste with our sense of smell, and they are somewhat connected. Because of this we tend to assume that animals with a superior sense of smell also have an advanced sense of taste, but in practice this actually tends to be in reverse.

The reason why this is relevant is because it’s possible that Kyra’s inability to understand why we eat the crap that we do is because, if we assume she has an extremely limited sense of taste like that of a bird of prey, she may literally be unable to understand the concept of eating exclusively for the purpose of pleasure.

So of course this begs a couple of questions. For one, does this rule of taste even apply to Kyra? After all, we’ve seen that her body is advanced in so many ways that surpass modern animals, it’s possible that she somehow has a miraculous evolution-defying sense of omnitaste. The second question is, has anyone in her compound had this realization and tried to explain our sense of taste to her? Because she clearly still feels the need to question our behavior even after ten years, which suggests to me that this is probably NOT the case (either that or she’s being intentionally obtuse because teasing us for what appears to be odd eccentricities from her perspective is funny to her).

I also have been waiting for a good opportunity to bring it up in the comic because I have stuff written on this subject but yes, you are indeed correct – carnivores generally don’t have much going on in the taste senses so the same might go for Kyra. Luckily with her big hunter’s nose her sense of smell is terrifyingly powerful. But that’s for another story for another chapter.

As for her bringing up the sugar stuff all the time it’s less of a “why do you do this” and more of a “I honestly can’t believe none of you realize this.” Again, I have some fun ideas for that as well. But for a quick example let’s just say someone at work stepped in a dog dropping and you seem to be the only one who notices. How is this not bothering anyone else? It’s so obvious! Kyra probably has so many moments like that all the time around humans.

But … she DOES also seem to enjoy bugging new people, something Bill has to teach them all apparently.
