Aw… It was nice to see a confident Paul that wasn’t taking any nonsense….
Still, this begs the question of who made Eon in the first place.
My guess is that Eon ended up in the lab the same way most of the things there did: she was experimental technology that was deemed too dangerous or scary.
There is a comic from a little while ago that showed a moment from Kyra’s past where the scientists are trying to teach her proper grammar but, being Kyra, she finds it all too boring. In the same comic one of the scientists suggests that they should “give Eon a chance” to teach Kyra in hopes that she’d make it more interesting. If I had to guess, I would say that this is the moment when they turned Eon “on”, and then Eon just straight up took over all the computers in the facility.
I would also guess that this is the event that cost the lab their funding, as Kyra had previously implied that their funding ran out at the same time Eon appeared. The scientists were probably restricted from activating her.
Also, I am assuming that when we were shown flashbacks of the scientists saying “What have we done? She’s going to doom us all!”; the person who the scientists were actually afraid of was Eon, and Kyra simply misconstrued to source of their fears and blamed herself. If that’s true, that is really sad for Kyra, as she’s been living with this unnecessary anxiety this entire time.
The animals made for a good red herring on that front.
Still, now I’m wondering if Eon is the one who drove the college geneticist off the deep end, or if there is something more to Kyra we’re still in the dark about.
This is why I have never bought a computer named with an acronym. Sorry HP, Commodore PET, Sony VAIO, and IBM PC-AT…
If you say so GLaDOS…
I mean EON…
Well, things were going well for Paul for a minute or two.
