Don’t feel bad Ann, you’re improving!  Better than I was at that time.  Heck, look at how long it’s taken me to get to this comic looking “good.”  The answer is never because I can always look back and say “oh darn I could have done that better!”  But that’s a good thing because it’s a true sign of improvement or something.  We’ll see where she’s at next week as we’ll be out of the flashbacks by then for sure.

I am, however, a bit disappointed in that I had a three page update all planned out for this week.  I even got to the coloring part of page 1062 but didn’t have the time.  While making this page a few days ago my art table crashed while in sleep mode and corrupted the file.  Luckily it wasn’t a complete loss as the art program makes occasional backups, but it was still a huge setback.  Well … at least I have an even FURTHER head start than I did last week?  I just really like making this comic so we can all see what happens next!

Comparing your art skills to that of your own fictional characters? This is a brand new kind of artist self-doubt I’ve never seen before. I’ll be sure to avoid ever creating a character who draws now.

Haha, it was less of a personal dunk and more of a humorous anecdote. Like Ann I too was starting to experiment with actual inking with equally messy results. But that was twenty-ish years ago and I have vastly improved since then beyond recognition. You can all do it too, don’t give up!

Poor Ann, look at her expression in that 1st panel. So excited and expecting praise for her artwork. Then to hear that they are only good for reference some day. Aww.
And poor Andrew, so sorry about your art crashing! Must’ve been extremely frustrating. We’re lucky we got 2 new comics this week and the promise of more to come.

Her haircolor changed yet again.
Also, adding wings doesn’t necessarily mean improvement. However the legs and the outline suggest develeopement just nicely. And is that reference color in the lower left half? She sure is learning!

Spotted the inkling ~~reference~~ Design for her future tatoo.

I do enjoy the question, as it is an important one imo. But I can see why an artist would refrain from asking it.

“Heck, look at how long it’s taken me to get to this comic looking “good.” The answer is never because I can always look back and say “oh darn I could have done that better!” ”

I think there is a difference between looking good and being improvable, Andrew. Your art is great! It is well beyond the point of being good. Can you improve it? Why of course, there is no such thing as perfection, but that doesn’t change that you surpassed the level of “good” already.

You can see the improvements you have made from your first pages here to now just like you can with Anns art. Your story is greatly supported by it, being charming and funny.

So here is hoping for no more sleep mode induced crashings!

Ann going through multiple hairstyles is not only in character but can help people keep track of her age. At thirteen it was the pineapple look. Sixteen she cut it short and made it red. By eighteen she grew it out and went pink. And in our present time the pink is finally fading away back to yellow. Maybe she’ll do something weird again later?

Thanks for the kind art words. Like Kyra said earlier it takes work to get what’s in the head onto the paper. And indeed hopefully no more crashes in sleep, bother for the tablet and myself he he
