During the Scramble for Africa, English soldiers found a region where the natives would refuse to step in puddles when it rained, insisting it was bad luck. The soldiers, to show they didn’t believe in bad luck, decided to play in the puddles barefoot in front of the natives. They were all infected with a parasitic worm that only lives in that part of the world.

Glad to see our modern soldiers continuing that proud tradition.
