Ah the lives of two people required to be there, though one loves it and the other hates it.  Who could it be?  I mean, I hope you know because you’ve been reading.  The comic is way more informative than the posts here.

I’m pretty sure there’s only going to be a single page update next Monday.  Oh, not because I’m going to be busy with Easter stuff this week.  It’s because there’s only one more page in this chapter left!  I mean – there’s still a chance I could pad it out to two pages as it’s not 100% set in stone, but one page will do it.  We’ve got the very basic setup going here for Kyra’s life, plus the next chapter will pick up immediately where this one ends.  But we’ll worry about that next week!

Also that second row of panels is perfect for what it’s like to draw anything, so here they are to enjoy by themselves.  Use it to spam those memes or whatever the kids are doing these days.drawingyayboo

Y’know, I’m really happy with how far Paul has come. He’s competent, insightful, and faces problems. Granted, he was always the first two, it was just the third that kept getting in the way.

Also, I appreciate that while Kyra’s visitors were all flawed, they had redeeming qualities too. Even Mr. Etape was offering a very generous deal.

One of the things I enjoy about the first story arc is how in the end there really wasn’t a main villain. Or at least, many of the “villains” weren’t what they seemed. I’ve got some exciting stuff cooked up for this one with, hopefully, more entertaining characters with bad name puns.

Kyra’s rock-capades must be a really awkward insurance call…

“yeah my car got crushed by a boulder”

“were you driving through a canyon?”

“no a dinosaur threw it off a building”

“we don’t take too kindly to rapscallions on this here insurance line matey”

“i’m serious!”

Andrew, I found the sketches you posted a few updates ago to be very helpful with explaining how you figure out layouting (is that a word?). If I can ask, have you ever posted your step by step process anywhere, like on social media or something?

One big important part I left out in those sketches is what I call the “ink” layer where the final drawing is. There’s big blank spots where the text will be … because the text is already there! It’s the first step I do to make sure there’s room.

The problem though is that it can make the whole comic revolve around just the text, sometimes even making the drawings an afterthought. That kind of goes against the main advantage of a comic. But I’ve been trying to break that bad habit by focusing more on the images and more prep work.

I don’t think I’ve ever done a whole step by step process before. If I did it’d be outdated because I do things differently now. Could be something I put together someday if people are interested in though!
