Ah, a good few pages of setting up what Kyra’s other mornings tend to be like.  It’s not all annoying humans and the things they do apparently?  Perhaps we’ll get more actual story next week in the next update perhaps oh maybe?  Gosh the comic has too many characters I want to tell stories about!  Hmm, not really too much else to say here.  I’m glad I had almost two weeks to get these three pages done because I’m quite pleased at how they turned out.  Even if there’s not a ton of plot yet we’ve got some setup and, more importantly, a lot of Kyra being Kyra.

Thats 20 in one page, probably a record. Imagine the tomfoolery if they weren’t all one in the same.

I’m not convinced the last two pages aren’t just a painted over gesture practice sheet. But it totally makes this comic so amazing that you go out of your way so much to make the most off the wall poses. Or I guess out the door. Out the door poses. And up a tree.

Kyra’s just fun to draw, heh. I always get excited for pages like these because I think “oh boy no dialog this won’t take time at all” then proceed to spend a far more significant time on the sketching part. I throw away so many Kyra poses for not being right!

Ah, so nice to see Kyras morning unfold. Looking her kick that bag and scratching the tree must be part of her routine. Even though that box full of skulls is kind of concerning.
And ah I can’t apreciate all the Kyras enough! Like the first ones expression is so unique yet somehow familiar. And it suits her so well!

A phone with “K-Room” written on it? who could “k” be, or what?

And she is drawing on the wall. Probably not allowed, which is also totaly Kyra. But it seems it was for testing the pen, so I let it pass.

That quote is so well placed. You must have been waiting for so long to use it like this. Wondering if Kyra knows about it.

Good to see that Kyra still has her hunting going on. It does make me wonder if they give her any food, or if she just prefers hunting it.

Kyra does raise an interesting question. Nobody there watching her like at all? She has more freedom than I expected. Not that they could contain her if she realy wanted to get away. Kyra is a escaping specialist after all. An unexpected surprise, but a welcome one.

I had so much fun drawing all these Kyras, even if it took longer than normal. She does need to have that morning routine and a box to keep her skulls. K-room must be Kyra’s-Room unless I think of something more clever, heh

In the last two chapters they did mention that Kyra enjoys running around the whole compound. They even acknowledged that the fences aren’t actually able to keep her in and are mostly for appearances. At this point I bet she stays in on her own and everybody’s thankful every day that she does. Heck, maybe she’s not supposed to be able to get out here on her own like this? We’ll have to see!

I’ve been pondering, maybe they ought to do some sort of cultural exchange program. If Kyra has to learn all these human-y things and fit into human culture, maybe they ought to get some humans to wear dino suits and learn dino culture (or what Kyra would figure her “culture” to be, at least) as an important learning experience about dino behaviour! Plus, it would also help Kyra feel less alienated by creating some “peers” to be all dino-y with.

Of course, this is mostly just my bias towards wanting to dress people up in robo-augmented dino suits so they can also experience the joys of having a tail… ????

When I saw you mention “cultural exchange” I first thought yes, Kyra would love to see the rest of the world, heh. But we’ve already seen some huge Kyra fans in the comic and people dressing up as dinosaurs. How far could this possibly go …

Oh well the other kind of cultural world tour would certainly be amusing too, but I meant the inter-species type rather than the intercontinental type! ????

Kyra seems obviously under a lot of stress to “fit in” with the human norms. I figure that turnabout should be only fair, since she’s the de-facto representative of “her people” (extinct or not).

I imagine something like a “dino culture area” of the compound, most likely consisting of a lot of outdoors. Probably even this exact area she’s unwinding in already. If the humans get to set rules in the “human area” (and indeed, most of the rest of the planet), then Kyra ought to get to set rules for her “dino area” as well (within reason, and obviously not contradicting safety/security/etc of the general compound). So if she has to be properly dressed, and not spook the visitors, or not scratch up the walls… then in the “dino area” anyone should look and behave like a proper dino. A dedicated area for the kind of stuff she usually has to sneak away to do.

Not just obsessive fans wearing dino kigurumis or other appearance-only costumes either, that wouldn’t work very well. They’d need some sort of support rig (like the ones those cosplayers use for crazy shape builds IRL) so they can walk and balance like Kyra, and she sets the rules. Teaching them on how to walk / run / behave rather than the reverse that normally happens everywhere else. “No plantigrades allowed!” and such. It could start as some basic plastic/rubber rigs and work their way up to fancier electronics from there. Who knows, maybe they could boot up Eon again and get her help building the dino suit MKII or something…?

Plus it could be more than just therapy for Kyra’s mental health, it could also be a chance for scientists to do study on dino behaviour… “in-depth” as it were. With enough roleplayers following along (lead by Kyra), a study in how her species might have formed social dynamics and other such cross between palaeontological / psychological studies. A new field of paleopsychology, perhaps? ????

Then of course the humans take the dino-larping too far and Kyra has to reign them in or something…? Hijinks ensue.

Well now that’s a fascinating set of ideas, heh. Certainly something to get me thinking about angles I haven’t considered before. Some of the things you’ve mentioned will come up one way or another, but for the overall idea (based on what we’ve seen in the comic so far) the biggest hurdle is the public. That sounds expensive and people don’t like spending money. Also some people don’t seem to like Kyra period. The overall public perception is full of so many options, as well as all these other characters finally showing up again. Only being able to make three to four chapters a YEAR drives me crazy sometimes.

I hope your cat is all right. Inktober can wait, or be canceled. cat is important. ( And animals like to hide their pain due to nature being scary as Kyra)
( I know this is kind of offtopic but I do not have a twitter account.)

To validate this post: Kyra Nr. 14 ( Third panel Nr.4) has the longest wooshing tail ever. Bunny had no chance.

Thank you for the well wishes! Strangely enough, ever since the vet visit she’s seemed like her old self again as if nothing even happened. I’m still waiting for some test results to come back but I’m hoping this means it wasn’t anything serious. Cats are weird like that.

What’s funny is that even if I wasn’t stressing out about the cat I’m not sure how up for Inktober I’d be. Maybe the hassle of not having a scanner anymore is a road block. Maybe because I mostly do digital. Or maybe I’m just too tired these days, heh. I do need to draw for fun more. My old sketchbooks from before I was making Kyra is full of weird things for me. They say think carefully before starting a decade long comic story … then I go and do two that go twice that length XD

And yes, Kyra is fast and a masterful huntress so hopefully nobody gets on her bad side too much.
